“Star, star where are you, are you now?
Star, where are you now?”
(AUGUST 7, 2020) – Denton, TX based futuristic 60s/70s folk rock and psychedelic pop duo Field Division cast a spell with their new ethereal single, “Star Where Are You,” which premiered exclusively on American Songwriter. Field Division, consisting of the duo Evelyn Taylor and Nicholas Frampton, explain the meaning behind the song, “Star Where Are You,” saying:
“It’s about losing a friend or loved one – to death or distance – feeling far enough away from your shared existence to perceive them in a different light. It’s about loneliness and getting through it on a sliver of wonder.”
Field Division shared a new single in early 2020 with “Black Velvet Skies,” a song offering peace in the midst of relentless modern disillusionment, a George Harrison cover of “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth), and now, “Star Where Are You,” the second single from their upcoming LP. With album number two on the horizon, the duo are planning a self release, optimistic that their well-crafted, atmospheric songs will hold up beauty and healing to this chaotic universe.
Field Division delivered a timeless collection of songs with their 2018 debut LP, Dark Matter Dreams, receiving praise from CLASH, Slug Magazine and debut EP, Reverie State, that will make you think you’re back in hazy, Laurel Canyon. Taylor’s ethereal vocals are complimented by Frampton’s tight harmonies and superb guitar playing, with each taking the lead on a song à la Buckingham Nicks, their chemistry weaving a path through the music and on stage.
The recordings and live full band (featuring members of Midlake) create a dreamscape that showcases the depths of Taylor and Frampton as more than just singer-songwriters. With the power to transport the listener to another often otherworldly place and time, their songs explore themes of transcendence and peace, depression, and darkness.
Over the years, Field Division has toured all over the States, the UK and EU, and have appeared at festivals such as SXSW, CMJ, 80/35, Hinterland, Mission Creek, Oaktopia, GDP, Indiestad & Reeperbahn. Notable acts they’ve opened for include Spoon, Delta Rae, Chris Stills, Horse Feathers, Josh Rouse, Erika Wennerstrom, Holly Macve, Israel Nash, and Widowspeak.
