Music Monday at NEC

Today’s #MusicMonday release:

NEC Jazz Orchestra | Bad Hombres y Mujeres: Antonio Sanchez

In October 2019, Grammy Award-winning Mexican-American jazz drummer and NEC alum Antonio Sanchez performed with the NEC Jazz Orchestra in NEC’s Jordan Hall. The performance featured music from his most recent recording, Lines in the Sand, a reflection on the recent events at the border.
Antonio also spoke with NEC student Kabir Adhiya-Kumar about his experiences as a student, how to collaborate with other musicians, and more as part of NEC’s Jazz50 conversation series.
#NECMusicHub:

“I wrote this piece during the quarantine, while I was trying to find new places in my heart. One night, I couldn’t sleep, so I just began playing. It was around 2 a.m., and the very first notes became the B part of this piece. You can really feel the silence, calm, and wonder in the music.” —Moshe Elmakias

This #NECMusicHub composition was created by jazz pianist Moshe Elmakias ’21 MM and is part of the #MusicAtMidnight series curated by Bower Stage Fellow Shane Dylan ’21. Follow our #NECMusicHub series to hear NEC musicians reach across distance and difficulty to help bring us together.
