“His electric riffs, bluesy harmonica, and sultry vocals give off an intimate, off the cuff feel that hits you hard with sentiment and sincerity—sending you back to the days when Lou Reed ruled downtown and New York radio made you move.”

FEBRUARY 26, 2020 (LOS ANGELES, CA) – Today, LA-based artist CHILLEMI shares his entrancing new single “FRIEND,” which features his deep sultry voice complemented with spaghetti western drenched reverb pinches of bass and soft acoustic guitars. “FRIEND” which premiered exclusively with MXDWN, is about the pain everyone has felt when a long-time friend letting you down. When that friend keeps letting you down it’s time to let them go. “FRIEND” deals with leaving all the toxic relationships behind and looking inward. “Tell me what a friend should be” is repeated in the chorus as our narrator asks the question back often. ”FRIEND” gives you the moment to choose to stand up and take a stand. “FRIEND” is the first single from CHILLEMI’s upcoming debut set to be released in spring 2021 via Taxi Gauche Records.
ABOUT UPCOMING RECORD – WITH WOMAN:
Dark sonic landscapes filled with heartache, longing, and love is one way to describe CHILLEMI’s debut LP With Woman. Recorded in producer Kyle Avallone’s bedroom and Brian Chillemi’s apartment in Brooklyn, this home recording takes us on a journey full of stark imagery, sensual experiences, and downright intimate vibes. One part Alan Vega and one part Lee Hazlewood, “With Woman” drum machine drive pulses while guitars swirl and organs pump. In a cool, collected voice the tales unravel to a hypnotic effect and one can’t help but be drawn in. Beautiful, yet stark arrangements are the mark of “With Woman” which feels calm, collected, and yet raw and unhinged at the same time.
LYRICS:
“FRIEND”
Yesterday you were my friend
Ask me tomorrow and I won’t say that again
You gotta pick what side you’re standing on
Been hanging out with them for far too long
Tell me what a friend should be
Tell me so I can see
How many times did I talk to you?
How many times did you ignore the truth?
Keep walking around with your head in the sand
Maybe one day you’ll stumble your way
Right into the promise land (and you can)
Tell me what a friend should be
Tell me so I can see
Tell me so I can see
