Music Monday at NEC

Today’s #MusicMonday release:

Mahler – “Rheinlegendchen” | NEC Liederabend Series
Soprano Emily Siar ’21 DMA and pianist Elias Dagher ’17 MM, ’20 GD perform “Rheinlegendchen” (Little Rhine Legend) from Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn, a collection of his charming settings of German folk poems.
“We put a lot into this recording, so aside from our love for the music itself, I think looking back on this recording reminds us how much we appreciate working with each other, and gives us hope that we will eventually be able to create something like this again.” —Trio Gaia on their performance of Weinberg’s Piano Trio in A Minor, Op. 24 – 2. Toccata
“I wrote this tune for a friend who had to put their dog down. It is also an ode to the people and things we have lost over the last few months and the thoughts that creep in during the night. I hope we can learn to accept this new reality and move forward with strength and grace.”—Matt Kelly ’20 MM on his original piece, “Lots of Names”
These performances are part of the #MusicAtMidnight series curated by Bower Stage Fellow Shane Dylan ’21. Follow our #NECMusicHub series to hear NEC musicians reach across distance and difficulty to help bring us together.
